I'm Alexa, but you already know that. However, you might call me Lexi, which is cool. Like me, cool that is. I make my own friendship bracelets like it's my job. But it's not. I work at a seasonal restaurant. I have an iPhone and we all know that makes me superior or something. Oh yeah, I'm like 21 or something like that. What Happened to the Real America?

There are many reasons why sociologists feel that America’s social problems have lead to the deterioration of the society. Many sociologists wonder if the American Empire will see the same fate as the Greek, Roman and European Societies. Dr. Gosine explores throughout his book “What Happened to the Real America” reasons to why he feels there is an impending decline to the common good of the society. One idea he expresses within this book is that there will be a fall similar to the Greek, Roman and European Societies if the American people do not clean up their act and social problems.
In Chapter Two, Dr. Gosine explains that the luxurious lives of the Greek, Roman and European Empires, and how it all lead to the ultimate demise of their societies. Chapter two expresses that though they fell, the societies contributed many of the advances and inventions to the world. The Greek Empire contributed to the advancements of mythology, architecture, democracy, drama, science and philosophy (12). The Greeks even believed in “questioning traditional ways of doing things and rising to a higher level of learning (13).” Arguably, the American society could be seen as a parallel to the Greek society because of the many advancements it has made in modern science; it can also be argued that the protests and other rebellious acts could be linked to how the Greeks believed in “questioning traditional ways of doing things.”
The Roman Empire also contributed many things to the world. The Romans appreciated the arts, had a system of law, contributed to literary and political achievements, and created the system of “Pax Romana” (13, 14). Many of these contributions can be found throughout western cultures today. Many of the American Government buildings are littered with Roman architecture and sculptures. Not only can Roman architecture be found in America, but also many political ideas and even the idea of Manifest Destiny. Rome and America are very similar in many ways.
